Prepare Early! Of course, getting your MBA will not be easy, and the application process can take years of work. Because of this, it is best to start preparing for your MBA application as soon as possible! If you are still in school getting your bachelors degree, it's important to maintain an adequate GPA and to get involved in extracurricular activities. Clubs, non-profits, student organizations, and other volunteer groups look great on your resume.
Work, Work, Work! You could also begin to fill your resume with valuable work experience during and after undergrad. On average, students who enroll in an MBA program have 5+ years of work experience, and admissions committees deeply value students who show initiative and dedication while employed. Furthermore, your workplace is one of the best locations to grow your network and find people willing to write you a stellar letter of recommendation.
Ace the Test! Prior to applying to your MBA programs, you will need to decide between taking the GMAT or the GRE. Regardless of the exam chosen, applicants generally spend anywhere from two months to a year studying. Preparing for the exam early on allows you time to retake it or join any prep courses to boost your score, if necessary.
Research and Visit! Lastly, and this is the fun part, visiting the campuses that you are interested in and talking with some current students will give you an idea if that school is where you would like to enroll. Every campus has its own unique dynamic and culture, and you want to make sure you can see yourself thriving in that environment.
